Our youngest children join our school in Year R, in the September after their 4th birthday.

We liaise closely with all our feeder nurseries, and we visit every child at home too, so we can get to know them before they start school.

We assess all our children on entry to school ('baseline') so that we can provide a bespoke curriculum to meet their needs. This assessment is based on play and activities in the classroom with their teacher.

Children in Year R follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Their learning is through a mix of play and structured activities including daily phonics so that they learn to read swiftly and effectively. We have a bright and spacious early years classroom as well as an out door learning terrace, play area, and garden.

As and when they are ready, our youngest class also mix with the rest of our school for lunch, playtimes, and whole school events.

Our teaching team is experienced and well-qualified in the the needs of very young children.
